MARIANA TORRES SILVA, Kumiai Indian Basketweaver

Mariana Torres Silva weaves coiled juncus baskets and is known for her very fine stitches and small coils. Mariana primarily weaves large trays baskets with rattlesnakes, lizards, frogs. Mariana accepts commissions for her larger custom made-to-order coiled Kumeyaay baskets.

Mariana lives in the Kumiai community of San Jose de la Zorra, Baja California.

This Kumeyaay Indian artist's work may be purchased at Shumup Ko Hup Indian store in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
